Despite the fact that the first Harry Potter film was released 20 years ago (can you believe it?! ), the Harry Potter film franchise will always have a special place in our hearts. And, if you’re planning a Harry Potter marathon, seeing all of the Harry Potter films in order is practically a requirement.

Because of the 20-year Harry Potter reunion in January, the past few months have brought back *all* of our Harry Potter nostalgia, from Emma Watson and Tom Felton’s particular friendship to Rupert Grint’s beautiful updates on daughter Wednesday.

Re-watching our old Hogwarts favorites in action still feels like a giant warm hug, no matter how much the cast grows up and changes. Returning to Hogwarts in film form always seems like coming home, from Harry, Ron, and Hermione to Draco, Dumbledore, and Snape. And immersing yourself in the wonderful world of witchcraft and wizardry for an hour (or twenty!) is still the ultimate kind of escapism.

So, if you’re planning a big night in, here’s how to watch all of the Harry Potter movies online in chronological sequence. The Order in Which the Harry Potter Films Will Be Released

Harry Potter is a film series based on J. K. Rowling’s namesake novels. Beginning with Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (2001) and ending with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, the series is distributed by Warner Bros. and comprises eight fantasy films (2011).  Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016) marked the commencement of the Wizarding World shared media franchise, which will be followed by a five-film spin-off prequel series.

This is the beginning of the Harry Potter story, in which you see Harry for the first time as he prepares to enter Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It takes place in 1991, while the film was released in 2001. At Hogwarts, you meet many of the important characters, including Lord Voldemort, Harry’s arch-nemesis, and the action revolves around the Philosopher’s Stone. Nicholas Flamel, who you don’t meet until Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, was the owner of the stone.

Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets Is a Fantasy Novel Written by J.K. Rowling

The adventures at Hogwarts for Harry Potter and his friends continue in the second book in the series and the second film. As the youngsters get older, Lord Voldemort becomes more powerful, and things become a little darker. The film was released in 2002, yet it takes place in 1992.

The third film takes a significant stride forward when we meet Sirius Black (the prisoner), who has a significant impact on Harry’s journey. However, it is the introduction of the dementors that causes things to become darker and more dangerous. At the same time, as Harry accepts his fate, the Muggle family tale becomes less essential. The film was released in 2004 and is set in 1993.

The Goblet of Fire is a significant point in the plot, ushering the characters into their adolescent years (Harry is roughly 14 in this film), presenting adolescent topics including relationships, and introducing the Quidditch World Cup and the Triwizard Tournament. The film begins in 1994 and concludes in 2005.

Harry Potter and The Order of The Phoenix Is a Fantasy Novel Written by J.K. Rowling

With Voldemort now a very serious menace, the action sees chaos at Hogwarts, as well as the birth of the Order of the Phoenix, a resistance to the evil lord, and the Ministry of Magic’s widespread denial that there is a problem. The film was released in 2007 and takes place in the year 1995.

Voldemort pursues the Deathly Hallows in order to become a master of death, and most of the film revolves around locating and destroying Horcruxes.

The second deathly hallows installment was released in 2011 and continues the prior installment’s missions, with a lot more action centered around Hogwarts, including the massive Battle of Hogwarts. It ties up loose ends from prior films, including the Chamber of Secrets and much more Potterlore, to bring the plot to a thrilling finale.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

The film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is based on the same-named Hogwarts textbook written by Newt Scamander, the protagonist of the Fantastic Beasts flicks. The films are a precursor to the Harry Potter series, in that they have many of the same themes as the Harry Potter books but with a distinct plot. Newt Scamander, who arrives in New York in 1926 on magizoologist business, is lured into a supernatural conspiracy in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald Is a Sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

The magnificent monsters take a backseat as the plot shifts to Grindelwald’s aim of establishing a wizarding order that is superior to muggles. We see a young Dumbledore, a nod to the Harry Potter films, but many of the characters from the first Fantastic Beasts, as well as characters from previous films, such as Nicholas Flamel, make cameo appearances. The film is set in 1927, yet it was released in 2018, with a third installment planned for the near future.

The third Fantastic Beasts film takes up where The Crimes of Grindelwald left off, with a formed team of familiar heroes attempting to thwart Grindelwald’s goals. In place of Johnny Depp, Mads Mikkelsen plays Grindelwald, and Eddie Redmayne and Jude Law return. It was released in theatres on April 8, 2022, in the United Kingdom and Ireland, and on April 15, 2022, in the United States; it will premiere on HBO Max on May 30, 2022.
