Karl-Anthony Towns, star center for the Minnesota Timberwolves, revealed on Monday that he had been ill with something other than COVID-19.
Towns told the press that his current weight is 231, down from his previous declaration of 248. He didn’t go into detail about the illness, but he did say that he had just recently begun walking again and was looking forward to keeping up his rehabilitation in order to return to the court.
Towns also mentioned that he was hospitalized at one point and that basketball was the last thing on his mind due to the severity of his condition.
Karl-Anthony Towns didn’t go into deep detail about what he’s been through, but said he only started walking again after his non-covid illness on Saturday. He’s down to 231 pounds. But says he feels good to be back out on the court and is ramping back up.

He remarked, “At that very moment, there were more serious things to worry about than basketball.” “Initially, basketball was not a major concern of mine. But the game is something I truly enjoy and something I miss. I long to be reunited with them.”
During the month of July, the Timberwolves and Towns agreed to a supermax contract worth a total of $224 million over four years. The agreement increased the total value of his six-year contract to $295 million.
Ramona Shelburne of ESPN reported in May that Towns had stem-cell therapy and platelet-rich plasma injections in his knees, ankle, wrist, and finger. At the end of Minnesota’s playoff run, he played through injuries and opted for non-surgical treatments.
One of the best offensive big men in the NBA, the 2015 first overall pick came out of Kentucky. The 26-year-old scored 24.6 points per game and grabbed 9.8 rebounds on the floor, while also putting up 52.9 percent from the field and 41.0 percent from deep.
Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert was acquired from the Utah Jazz in a massive trade that has to be considered one of the offseason’s best moves. With the three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year in Minnesota’s frontcourt, Towns won’t have to worry as much about scoring.
Wolves head coach Chris Finch confirmed that Towns will sit out Tuesday’s preseason opener against the Miami Heat. The Timberwolves will probably be extra careful with his recovery so he can play at a high level for the rest of the season.
