Ben Jacobs discussed reports that Kylian Mbappe will be joining Liverpool on The Done Deal Show.
The news that Mbappe wants to leave PSG spread like wildfire this week, and it appears the only team Le Parisiens will sell to is the Reds.
Whether or if Liverpool will actually pay that much money for Mbappe is another question entirely, but it’s a rumor that’s being spread.
However, Jacobs claims that the Reds have their sights set on signing another player before Mbappe. That youngster is Jude Bellingham.
According to the reporter, Bellingham is more important to the Reds than Mbappe this summer.
Bellingham Over Mbappe
Ben Jacobs claims that Liverpool prefers Bellingham to Mbappe if given the choice.
At this point in time, Bellingham is Liverpool’s top priority over Mbappe. However, from Real Madrid’s perspective, even if they do acquire Mbappe, they may not acquire Bellingham.
Liverpool and Real both want Bellingham, but if Real opts for Mbappe, Liverpool has a somewhat easier time signing him. That being said, Jacobs acknowledged that it is a wide-open contest.
Understandable
It’s reasonable that Liverpool would choose to sign Bellingham over Kylian Mbappe right now, despite Mbappe’s superiority.
The Liverpool midfield is their lone weak spot.
Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are far too injury prone to play for a side like Liverpool, and Thiago and Jordan Henderson are getting on in years.
The Reds’ offense is functioning normally. Mbappe would be a luxury signing compared to already excellent players like Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino, Darwin Nunez, and Mohamed Salah.
Bellingham could be a better signing than Mbappe.
