Is Julian Sands Still Alive?
Julian Sands, a British acting veteran, went missing on January 13, and the search for him has been ongoing for more than a week. Sands had gone on a hike in the Baldy Bowl area of the Southern California mountains that day, but when he did not return, his family reported him missing.
Since then, search and rescue crews have been combing the area, however poor weather and other factors have hampered their efforts. This trend is expected to continue into the weekend, as icy weather and the risk of avalanches have slowed rescue attempts on the ground. For the time being, they are searching by helicopter for any trace of the actor.
At this point, all authorities have found is Sands’ automobile, which was found in the area where he was reported missing. Additional efforts to locate him have been made, including pinging his cell phone but have yielded no results as of yet.
“There has been no new update or witness information on his whereabouts since then,” Gloria Huerta, Public Information Officer for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, told BBC News on Friday. “We have resumed the air search, but we have not yet resumed the ground search due to icy conditions and the potential of avalanches.”

Julian Sands Still Missing in California
Julian Sands’ wife reported her husband missing on Friday, January 13. At 7:30 p.m. PST that Friday, authorities received a call, and his vehicle was discovered in the Baldy Bowl area of Mt. Baldy, California. Sands, 65, was said to be hiking after leaving his North Hollywood home.
By January 20, police stated that the search was still ongoing after being forced to cease operations earlier in the week after evidence of avalanches was discovered on the west side of the hills. As a result, the helicopter was used to conduct the search.
The California Office of Emergency Services, according to sources, has a technique to monitor cell phones using forensic technology, even if the phone has gone dead. The phone moved on January 13, and there were pings on both January 14 and January 15. The longer he goes missing, the less likely it is that anyone will discover him alive.
Hiking in the Mt. Baldy basin region has been dangerous this winter. In the last month, two hikers have perished after falling. In the previous four weeks alone, there have been 14 rescue efforts. A public service announcement was issued, informing hikers of the recent storms’ snow and ice conditions, which are not suitable for even experienced hikers. One of the two fatalities was a “seasoned hiker.”

Julian Sands Has Not Been Discovered
While family, friends, and admirers continue to pray for the 65-year-old and hope for the best, the chances of finding him alive and well appear to be decreasing with each passing day. As of currently, authorities have claimed that no “strict timetable” has been established to finish the search and rescue activities.
Meanwhile, police said they’ve responded to more than a dozen such emergency calls in the Mount Baldy area in the last four weeks alone as a result of strong rains. This includes ongoing efforts to locate another hiker who went missing just days after Sands, while one woman died last week after falling down Mount Baldy. The terrain is “very dangerous, and even experienced hikers are getting into problems,” according to a police statement.
Sands, a father of three, has been residing in Los Angeles with his wife, despite being from England. Over the years, the actor has acted in a variety of films, including The Killing Fields, Warlock, and Leaving Las Vegas, as well as TV episodes such as Smallville and Banshee. He was most recently seen in Benediction, The Survivalist, and The Ghosts of Monday.
