English professional footballer Anton Charles Walkes (8 February 1997 – 19 January 2023) was a defender or midfielder.
Walkes made his first appearance for a club in the League Cup while playing for Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. He was on loan to Atlanta United in 2017 and stayed there through the end of the year.
Walkes then played for League One team Portsmouth for the balance of the 2017–18 campaign before becoming a permanent member of Portsmouth in July 2018.
He stayed with Portsmouth for two more seasons, taking home the EFL Trophy in 2019, before going back to Atlanta United in January 2020. He was acquired by Charlotte FC in 2022, where he stayed until his passing in a boat crash in Miami, Florida, a year later.

What caused Anton Walkes’ death?
The soccer sensation was in Miami on January 18, 2023, for Charlotte FC’s nearly two-week training camp.
According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Anton was discovered unconscious following a two-boat collision close to Miami Marine Stadium at around 3 p.m. After receiving CPR, Anton was rushed to the hospital, where the next morning he passed away from his wounds.
Anton’s passing was confirmed by Charlotte FC on Thursday morning. The club released a statement saying, “We are profoundly heartbroken to share that Anton Walkes tragically died away this morning. “May he find eternal peace.”

Born in Lewisham, Walkes was of Welsh and Bajan origin on both his mother’s and father’s sides. Alya was the name of the daughter he and his girlfriend, Alexis, had. Walkes admitted guilt to operating a vehicle while ineligible in November 2018.
