An actress who knows the industry very well and how less accommodating it is for women is none other than Sarah Michelle Gellar. Sarah is an icon of her time and even now, she is considered as a genre icon owing to her role as Buffy in the 1997 famous series ‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer‘. The show was on the screens for 144 episodes and ran for seven seasons, which is a great achievement for television series.
In recent times, Sarah has been quite vocal about the changes she has observed in the industry when it comes to making women-centric films, talking about Marvel Cinematic Universe films to be precise.
Speaking about it in an interview, Gellar said it’s “very backward” how female-led Marvel films often get “torn apart” in a way male-led Marvel projects do not.
Adding to her comment, she said: “Genre is where women can really succeed and hold an audience. Every time a Marvel movie tries to do a female cast, it just gets torn apart… Unfortunately, audiences weren’t as accepting.
There’s still this mentality of ‘the male superhero,’ this very backwards way of thinking.”
It is believed that Sarah was indirectly talking about women-centric Marvel movies like ‘Captain Marvel‘ and ‘Ms. Marvel’. These films were loaded with reviews by big platforms like Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb way before their official release.
Because these productions featured female superheroes in prominent positions, trolls deluged these websites with critical comments.

She also pointed that apart from the criticism faced by the women in the industry, women are not treated the same as their male co-actors on sets.
In recent times, Sarah Geller was seen in the news when she spoke about her series ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’. Sarah showed interest in making a reboot of the series. In her own words: “I am very proud of the show that we created and it doesn’t need to be done. We wrapped that up.”

Geller is a women empowerment activist. When asked about the sequel of her hit series, she said: “I am all for them continuing the story, because there’s the story of female empowerment. I love the way the show was left: ‘Every girl who has the power can have the power.’ It’s set up perfectly for someone else to have the power. But like I said, the metaphors of ‘Buffy’ were the horrors of adolescence.

According to Sarah’s personal experiences on sets and as a female actor in the industry, she said that there wasn’t a single day when there was no screaming on sets during shooting.
