Doja Cat Does Dominatrix Dressing in A Vinyl Versace Gown on The Grammys 2023 Red Carpet

When Doja Cat is involved, there is never a dull fashion moment.

For the Grammys 2023 red carpet, the “Say So” singer wore a black vinyl Atelier Versace gown with all the drama you’d expect from Doja Cat. The body-hugging gown featured a train, the trademark Versace shoulder twist, and an open back. She finished off her vinyl ensemble with matching vinyl gloves.

Doja Cat accessorized her dominatrix-style appearance with huge black earrings and stunningly dark makeup. Her black eyeliner had the most dramatic — and pointed — wing, but it was softened slightly with shimmer.

Doja Cat, 27, has five nominations for this year’s show. She has been nominated for several awards, including a record of the year for “Woman,” best rap performance for “Vegas,” best pop solo performance for “Woman,” best pop duo/group performance for “I Like You (A Happier Song),” and best music video for “Woman.” Last year, she received a Grammy for best pop duo/group performance for “Kiss Me More.”

Doja Cat’s album Planet Her was released in 2021, however, it wasn’t broadcast until early 2022. The song has gone triple platinum in the United States and even became viral on TikTok, sparking a slew of trending videos.

Though Doja Cat is a musical force to be reckoned with, she’s also a stylish risk-taker. She wore a couple of unforgettable gowns to sit in the first row at the key presentations during Paris Fashion Week last month.

When reviewers chastised her for not wearing lashes, she responded with her trademark sass. She wore lashes to resemble facial hair while attending the Viktor & Rolf show. Doja Cat donned feathered artificial eyelashes in place of her shaved brows and used the wispy falsies to construct a temporary moustache and goatee.

For the Planet Her artist, Fashion Month has been like a playground. She smeared her face in gold paint for Paris Fashion Week last October and didn’t appreciate folks who voiced negative thoughts.

On Twitter, one user stated, “The paint is making her appear unattractive. When doing makeup like this, you still need to highlight features. She appears to be a tired old statue lol.” Doja Cat noticed the remark and promptly defended her clothing choice.

“I wasn’t attempting to appear seductive or appealing,” she explained. “Every piece of my makeup has a narrative, and there are no rules; if there were, you wouldn’t be the one making them.”

Doja Cat is used to people criticizing her fashion and cosmetic choices. When she shaved her head last summer, she received a lot of attention for her decision — and she wasn’t having it.

“I won a grammy and traveled the f—king globe, I had a No. 1 and I went platinum,” she began the tweet in reaction to the criticism in August. “I keep hitting, and you guys expect me to look f-—able for you… Go f— yourself.”

In an Aug. 4 Instagram live, the rapper explained why she made the significant hair change as she debuted her new style.

“You’ve seen me with my natural hair out. I had maybe two eras where my hair was out. I’d sort things out… It was natural at one point, and I don’t even wear it naturally anymore because I don’t feel like it and it’s an f—ing nightmare, guy. “I’m over it,” Doja stated, adding that she didn’t “enjoy having hair.”

She’s been upfront about how much she enjoys not having hair and having the ability to change up her style all the time since then.

Doja Cat told Dazed in her November cover story, “I have never felt more attractive in my entire life, which is quite bizarre,” despite humorously comparing her close-shaved head to a “wrinkly penis” at first glance.

Despite the fact that longer hairstyles made her feel like a “sexy girl” — “but I usually do,” she said — letting go of her locks had several advantages.

“There’s something invigorating about change; [it] revealed a new aspect of myself to me. I feel so young, vibrant, and seductive. I also feel better without make-up: it’s a great sensation to have this naked head and so little make-up. It’s new to me, and I adore it “She went on to say.

The 2023 Grammy Awards will be broadcast live on CBS and Paramount+ from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday night.
