Stanley Wilson Jr. Cause of Death
Stanley Tobias Wilson Jr. who passed away at the age of 40 was said to have collapsed and died while in police custody, but his family is skeptical, surrounding the details of his sudden death. His family has filed legal claims against Los Angeles County, alleging excessive force by law enforcement officers before he collapsed and died. The family is seeking more than $45 million in damages.
According to his parents’ claim, the County has “grossly misrepresented the cause and circumstances” of the death of their son.
“The county failed to implement and maintain proper procedures to engage mentally disabled individuals, including Stanley Wilson Jr.,” the claim said.
Photos of wounds to Wilson Jr.’s head appear to show he was either kicked or stomped while images of ligature marks on his wrist appear to indicate he was restrained during the alleged attack, Stanley’s family lawyer John Carpenter reportedly said.
In August 2022, former NFL player Stanley was arrested for trespassing. According to Carpenter, this event could have been influenced by symptoms of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain disease that has been found in hundreds of NFL players after their deaths.
“Due to his mental illness, the county found him not able to stand trial, not able to provide assistance to counsel, and so they put him in the [Twin Towers Correctional Facility] since August of 2022,” Carpenter said.
Wilson Jr.’s mother claimed that she had previously been informed by officials that her son had fallen out of a chair during the intake procedure before he passed away.
Stanley Wilson Sr., the father of Wilson Jr. and a former NFL player, stated that the family merely wishes to know the truth.“It hurts really bad to bury your child,” he said, per KABC.
An official cause of death of Stanley Wilson Jr. has not yet been made public.
