Marcus David Maron, an American stand-up comedian, podcaster, writer, actor, and musician, was born on September 27, 1963. Maron has made more appearances on Late Night with Conan O’Brien than any other stand-up comic, more than forty, and was a frequent guest on the Late Show with David Letterman in the 1990s and 2000s. From 1993 to 1994, he took over as presenter of Comedy Central’s Short Attention Span Theater for Jon Stewart.
Along with Colin Quinn, he frequently appeared on Tough Crowd and hosted the brief American adaptation of the British game show Never Mind the Buzzcocks on VH1 in 2002. From 2004 to 2009, he regularly hosted The Marc Maron Show and co-hosted Morning Sedition and Breakroom Live on the liberal radio network Air America.

The Career of Marc Maron
Maron made his stand-up debut at the age of 24 in 1987. At The Comic Store in Los Angeles, where he first met Sam Kinison, he began his professional comedic career. Later, he relocated to New York City, where he joined the city’s alternative comedy scene.
He made many appearances during the summer of 1994 at the now-defunct Boston Comedy Club in Greenwich Village on Tracey Metzger’s Monday open-mic night. He failed to get a part in the 1995 recasting of Saturday Night Live and blames it on being inebriated when he met with program creator and producer Lorne Michaels.
In addition to continuing to perform stand-up comedy, Maron started to appear on television. He provided the voice of Dr. Katz, a Professional Therapist in several episodes, and he briefly served as the host of Short Attention Span Theater.
Additionally, he produced comedy showcases like the Cam Neely Foundation fundraiser, which also included artists like Jon Stewart, Denis Leary, and Steven Wright, as well as half-hour specials for HBO and Comedy Central Presents. He was a regular performer in the Eating It lives alternative stand-up series that he and Janeane Garofalo co-founded and that ran from the 1990s until 2005 at the rock club Luna Lounge in New York City’s Lower East Side.
