Adrenal carcinoma, a type of cancer that arises when healthy cells in the adrenal gland expand abnormally, was discovered in stage 4 in Reality Star.
Following her cancer diagnosis, Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell is commemorating her daughter Kaitlyn’s elementary school graduation.
The reality actress, 28, wrote in a Facebook post earlier this week, “I am one proud mama right now,” including images of both herself and Kaitlyn as well as those of her second daughter, Kylee, and her boyfriend, Eldridge Toney.
Anna said, “Give me a minute while I go cry my eyes out.” She said she “can’t believe I am going to have a middle schooler and a second grader.”
She ended the post by writing, “I am so proud of my girls and everything they have accomplished,” and tagged several members of her well-known family, including her mother, Mama June Shannon, and sister Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson, who recently received her high school diploma.
After PEOPLE learned in March that Anna had been diagnosed with cancer, Kaitlyn’s significant moment occurred. Anna, Mama June’s eldest child, received a stage 4 adrenal cancer diagnosis in January.
TMZ reported that after Anna complained of having stomach issues, a battery of tests was performed, during which the cancer was found in her liver, kidney, and lung.
Anna’s family is “very hopeful” she will recover from the illness, a source told TMZ, and the star allegedly completed her first round of chemotherapy in February.
David Dunn, Mama June’s ex-boyfriend who didn’t appear with the family on reality TV, is Anna’s father.

Mama June, 44, is the mother of Lauryn “Pumpkin” Efrid, 23, and Jessica “Chubbs” Shannon, 26, in addition to Anna and Alana, both 17 years old.
On her Instagram Story in March, Alana disclosed that her sister had been diagnosed.
When I say that you never really know what someone is going through at home, this is what I mean. The actor from Here Comes Honey Boo Boo wrote, “Yes, I’m highly famous, but normal s— happens to me and my family & y’all need to accept that ASAP.
