Adam Cole vs. “Filthy” Tom Lawlor was removed from the bill from AEW Forbidden Door 2023. Because Cole’s unable to perform due to illness, Tony Khan tweeted hours prior to the show. In a four-way battle for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship at Forbidden Door last year, Cole suffered a severe concussion and wasn’t able to compete again until March.
“Due to illness, @AdamColePro isn’t cleared tonight, therefore the Adam Cole vs @FilthyTomLawlor match is canceled. Despite the change, tonight will be an amazing show!
Thank you to everyone watching #ForbiddenDoor, either here live in Toronto @ScotiabankArena or on ppv tonight!”
He swiftly switched to a strategy with Chris Jericho that produced a string of victories, after which he focused on MJF’s AEW World Championship. Max has been attempting to avoid a rematch ever since he recently forced the champion to a 30-minute time-limit draw.
Recently, the two were matched up at random for a competition with the goal of competing for FTR’s AEW World Tag Team Championships. Friedman reciprocated the favor by agreeing to compete for Cole against Lawlor when Cole lured him into defending his title at Forbidden Door.
Cole’s word before his March comeback match:
“What’s wild is as time has gone on I feel better and better. I can train more, prepare more, and be around the right people. As far as feeling ready, it’s crazy. Because being gone for nine months, I don’t know if I’ll ever feel like, ‘All right, I’m ready.’ I’m scared. It’s been nine months since I’ve been in the ring. But physically, mentally, and emotionally, I am ready to go. The doctors agree. I can’t wait, I can’t believe it’s almost here.”
