The new Google Arts & Culture gallery brings a retrospective of Gustav Klimt’s chick, to see in the browser or in the native app of the Google project.

Few artists enjoy worldwide fame like Gustav Klimt. The new online retrospective “Klimt vs. Klimt – The Man of Contradictions” on Google Arts & Culture highlights the artist’s eclectic life and work. A Machine Learning experience has colored photographs of Klimt’s lost paintings, while a Pocket Gallery” brings some of his own most iconic works for your living room in Augmented Reality and 3D.

Along with more than 120 stories about his art and personality, a virtual tour of his studio and many highlights from the collections of over 20 cultural institutions around the world, “Klimt vs. Klimt is one of the most comprehensive online experiences about the artist.

Reconstructed lost paintings

Gustav Klimt’s legacy raises many unresolved questions, mainly due to the fact approximately % of his artworks have been lost throughout history. Live Gustav Klimt’s art in new ways online

The paintings are the true centerpiece of “Klimt vs. Klimt”. The retrospective brings together more than 60 of the artist’s most famous masterpieces, as well as lesser-known works, and brings together a selection expertly curated in an immersive augmented reality and 3D Pocket Gallery. This was possible thanks to a collaboration between Google Arts & Culture and more than 30 partners and institutions – among them the Belvedere, the Albertina, the Klimt Foundation, the Neue Galerie New York and the Metropolitan Museum of Arts. More than 30 Klimt’s masterpieces were also captured in ultra high resolution with Google’s Art Camera. Get closer to see “The Kiss” like never before!
