Early Life
Kristen Joy Schaal was born on January 24, 1978, in Longmont, Colorado, to Robert and Joy Schaal. Her father was a construction worker, and her mother was a secretary. Kristen and her older brother David raised their family on a cattle ranch not far from Boulder. She attended and graduated from Skyline High School in 1996.
The following year, Schaal transferred to Northwestern University in Chicago after spending a year at the University of Colorado. She graduated from Northwestern University and then moved to New York to pursue a career in comedy. Kristen was named one of “New York” magazine’s “Ten Funniest New Yorkers You’ve Never Heard Of” in a 2005 feature.
The following is an excerpt from an interview conducted in 2010 by “Schaal discussed the impact of the “New York” article on her career in an interview with The Guardian, saying, “That turned out to be my biggest break because the people from HBO Comedy Festival started to come to see me in the clubs. Career
After receiving the Barry Award at the 2008 Melbourne International Comedy Festival for her show “Kristen Schaal As You Have Probably Never Seen Her Before,” Kristen has been honored with Best Alternative Comedian at the US Comedy Arts Festival (2006), Best Female Stand-up at the Nightlife Awards (2006), and Best Female Stand Up Comedian at the ECNY Awards (2007).
During this time, Schaal began co-hosting the Brooklyn-based variety show “Hot Tub with Kurt and Kristen” with comedian Kurt Braunohler and made an appearance on the Comedy Central special “Live at Gotham” in 2006. (the show moved to Los Angeles in 2013).

Personal Life
On September 14th, 2012, Kristen wed comedy writer Rich Blomquist. Blomquist wrote for “The Daily Show” for a long time (2002–2012) and was nominated for seven Primetime Emmys for his work; he also contributed three episodes to “The Last Man on Earth.” Authors of “The Sexy Book of Sexy Sex” (2010), Kristen and Rich also welcomed daughter Ruby in February 2018.
When Schaal suffered a ruptured fallopian tube and an ectopic pregnancy in 2017, she had to have emergency surgery. She revealed the ordeal during a 2017 charity stream. Kristen lost two liters of blood because of this incident during a “Gravity Falls” recording session.
