For “Only Murders In The Building,” Selena Gomez receives her first Emmy nomination.
The only other Latina woman to be nominated for producing Emmy for a comedy series is Gomez right now.
Finally, Selena Gomez can boast that she has been nominated for an Emmy.
Tuesday saw the singer receive her first Emmy nomination for her work on the popular “Only Murders in the Building” Hulu series. In the show, Gomez plays Mabel Mora alongside Steve Martin and Martin Short.
Given that she serves as an executive producer on “OMITB,” which was nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series, Gomez garnered a historically significant distinction.
Gomez is now only the second Latina woman to ever receive a producing nod for a comedy series. She succeeds Salma Hayek, who served as executive producer for the 2007 nominee for Outstanding Comedy Series, “Ugly Betty.”
The singer was disqualified from the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy category for the Emmys. Only two Latina women, Rita Moreno for “9 to 5” and America Ferrera for “Ugly Betty,” have ever received nominations in that category (which she won in 2007).
Gomez started her career in 2003 on the children’s TV show “Barney,” and from 2007 to 2012, she starred in Disney’s “Wizards of Waverly Place,” where she quickly rose to fame.
