An American actor, producer, director, and sculptor, Anthony Lee Dow lived from April 13, 1945, to July 27, 2022. The television sitcom Leave It to Beaver, which ran from 1957 to 1963, featured him as Wally Cleaver, and this is what made him most famous. The New Leave It to Beaver and a television movie from 1983 to 1989 both had Dow reprising his Wally role.
Cancer Diagnosis and Passing
Dow was told that she had cancer in May 2022. Dow’s family revealed that he was in his Topanga, California, home on July 26, 2022, following an unfounded rumor of his passing. It was stated that he was receiving hospice care and was in his “final hours.” A day later, on July 27, Dow passed away at the age of 77.

Career
When Dow attended a casting call and was offered the part of Wally Cleaver in Leave It to Beaver, his acting career officially got underway despite having little to no prior training. He played the older brother of main character Theodore “Beaver” Cleaver and the son of June (played by Barbara Billingsley) and Ward (played by Hugh Beaumont) Cleaver for the whole of the series’ run, from 1957 to 1963, with the exception of the television pilot (played by Jerry Mathers). With Jerry Zucker playing Beaver, he imitated his own performance in The Kentucky Fried Movie.

Following Leave it to Beaver, Dow guest-starred in three separate roles on five episodes of Mr. Novak and other television programs such as My Three Sons, Dr. Kildare, The Greatest Show on Earth, Never Too Young, and My Three Sons. He then put an end to his acting career by joining the U.S. National Guard from 1965 to 1968.
He made his acting comeback by appearing as a guest star on the shows Adam-12, Love, American Style, Knight Rider, Square Pegs, The Mod Squad, The Hardy Boys, and Emergency!
Dow continued to perform as an actor throughout the 1970s while working in the construction sector, going to school for journalism, and making movies.

He contributed to The New Leave It to Beaver by writing an episode in 1986. The Former Child Star Lifetime Achievement Award was given to him by the Young Artist Foundation in 1987 in recognition of his portrayal of Wally Cleaver.
Following The New Lassie, episodes of Getting a Life, Harry and the Hendersons, Coach, Babylon 5, Crusade, and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine were directed by Dow, who also worked as a writer and producer. During Babylon 5, he oversaw the visual effects. For the FOX television film Doctor Who in 1996, he handled the visual effects.

He was not just an actor but also a bronze sculptor who produced abstract works. Concerning his work, he remarked, “The figures are illustrative in nature but are meant to convey the truth of the relationships as I perceive and experience them rather than to depict reality.
Each piece of wood I use is an evolution from my subconscious and I find it in the hills of Topanga Canyon. Using molds of the original burl sculpture, I create nine limited edition bronze sculptures through the lost wax method.” In Barbara Billingsley’s backyard garden, who portrayed his character’s mother on Leave It to Beaver, he had one of his bronze sculptures on display.
In December 2008, he was chosen as one of three sculptors to display at the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts exhibition in the Carrousel du Louvre, in Paris, France.
He represented the group of American artists from the Karen Lynne Gallery, who was part of the trip. “Unarmed Warrior,” a bronze sculpture of a woman wielding a shield, was his abstract piece on display at the mall in Paris.
