Although, Paramount wishes to have both stars on board for the spinoff, according to their spokesperson.
In the official statement, the spokesperson said: “We have no news to report. Kevin Costner is a big part of Yellowstone and we hope that’s the case for a long time to come. Yellowstone has also given Costner’s career a great turn, as the actor won the Golden Globes Award in the best actor in a television drama series category in January 2023. This is the reason why fans are a little surprised to learn about Costner’s exit from the show, when he was doing so good on the show.
The series has Costner as John Dutton. John is the owner of Montana’s largest ranch. The viewers see how John faces conflicts with his own family as well as bordering Broken Rock Indian Reservation. According to Kevin Costner, the reason for the show’s enormous success is how the show build’s it’s characters.
In June 2022, Kevin said in an interview: “I’ve always believed a good Western isn’t always just rushing towards its gunfight. If you can create language and situations, and then you end up at a gunfight, I think it can be an amazing movie or TV show. But I think if you’re trying to get there so fast that you don’t understand the people, or it’s not complicated, then it’s a problem.”
When asked whether Costner will make a comeback in the western genre, he said that he is always attracted towards the western genre as he is intrigued by the way the genre captures the times when migration used to happen and people were fearless and were ready to put their lives in danger. In his own words: “To drag your wife and your children and put them in imminent danger — people thirsted to have something of their own.”
